Hi! Thank you so much for your feedback. Well I think the secret lies in honest listening rather than trying to offer an immediate solution. I’d rather have my friends not say anything than the wrong thing. What bothers me about these statements is that they are just not really thoughtful, but then again and as I already mentioned in the article, all of this is usually said with the best of intentions. Depression is so complex that no one should offer a quick fix to those suffering from depression. And I’ve written this piece to raise awareness that it really does matter what you say and how. Maybe I should have added a paragraph talking about how to be a better listener if you’re trying to comfort a friend. Just being there and listening can have such a big impact.
