How to Run From a Narcissist

And how to run fast.

There is a contact in my phone book who I have saved as “Narcissistic Sociopath”. You don’t know me and you don’t know this person, so this might sound like I am the antisocial person here. But why is this boundary necessary for me? When this person calls me I need a strong reminder that their behavior has wrecked nothing but havoc on my life and that I must not answer the phone.

This human is responsible for a life full of depression, medication, endless therapy sessions, and in-patient treatment. I do not want that repeated. Ever. This person has forfeited any right to be a part of my life, even though my life comes from this person. She is my mother.

Do I sound cold-hearted and unforgiving? I might. Does it hurt me to see that other people think so badly of me? Not as much as it used to, but still a little. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

I will not go into detail on how to identify a narcissist here, I might do this in a later article. With this article, I am going to talk about some coping strategies for dealing with narcissists once you have identified them in your life. And you guessed it, one of the most powerful strategies is to simply run. Fast and without looking back.

Acknowledge that
