Kindness Won’t Cost You Anything
But it can be more precious than gold and diamonds
I recently read a quote that moved me profoundly:
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”
Little did I know what sinister background this quote had. Caroline Flack, an English television and radio presenter, posted this to her Instagram profile in December 2019.
72 days later tragedy unfolded as she took her own life.
Without exactly knowing what moved Caroline to see no other option than to end her very existence, there subsists a unanimous feeling that she must have been treated badly and that the unkindness she experienced eventually led, at least in part, to her death.
This is, without doubt, the most heartbreaking ending to acts of unkindness one can imagine. But Caroline’s quote made me think of what impact my actions can have on other people, perhaps even without any awareness on my part.
Of all the things any human can be, turn into, or possess — Caroline’s only and dearest wish was for others to be kind. Just imagine the endless world of options and possibilities most of us are faced with. This world offers us so many potential routes that kindness might take a backseat in our lives and become a rare…
