The Day Dr. Google Was Right

Getting a horrific diagnosis 10,000 miles away from home

I don’t even know where and how to start talking about this. Thinking about what happened to me back in 2012 brings back memories I’d rather not relive. But I have never written about those months that were without a doubt among the darkest of my life but I know I have to write this down to get some much-needed closure.

It was a morning like any other in October 2012. I had just gotten back from a vacation in Thailand and was getting ready to leave the house and catch my train to work. I was living in Melbourne, Australia at the time.

I had a terrible cold which had gotten worse on the flight home. That didn’t keep me from going to work that day, I had never stayed home for even a single day ever since I had started working at the insurance company.

It was a few hours into the day when I noticed that the vision in my left eye was slightly blurred. I didn’t think much of it and just continued working. It was however slightly inconvenient given the fact that I was staring at a computer screen for 8 long hours of that day.

When I got home my vision was not only blurry, but I also began experiencing serious pain in my left eye. I thought all of this was probably the worst migraine of my life, or maybe…
