Why I Wish I Was Dumb

Ignorance is bliss

Sometimes my job is so utterly monotonous that my mind decides to launch a daydream just for a change. You know, just like you turn on the TV when you’re chilling on your couch and need to drown your unhappy life in some white noise.

Mission Control to Daydream: You’re go for launch! Daydream to Mission Control: Roger that!

And 10, 9, 8, 7 …. 3, 2, 1. Liftoff Daydream! We’re leaving planet Productivity at rapid speed. What a success!

The problem is that my mind is not very good at keeping the plot interesting. It starts out as a blockbuster movie with lots of action, crashed cars, and explosions and then abruptly turns into a black and white French arthouse film. You know, those movies that have a hopelessly complex plot and only exist so that the few people who voluntarily watch them can rightfully claim to now have exhausted their intellectual capacity.

I wish my mind would just entertain me with a shallow and simple storyline, but it’s hopeless. As I dwell there in my cubicle with my empty eyes glaring at the computer screen my mind wanders and eventually wonders…

Why is it that the more I understand this complicated world the more complex it gets? How is this a never-ending vicious circle? Why am I still
