Note: This article describes my very own and very individual experience with Ketamine used as a treatment for depression, this article is not meant to be medical advice. I am not a doctor and I do not recommend any kind of treatment, please always consult with your health professional before making a decision that is right for you.

Hopelessness was where I came from

I have suffered from chronic, treatment-resistant depression ever since I can remember. I cannot even recall all the names of SSRIs and SNRIs I have tried, I think I might have had them all. It has always been a brutal trial and error. Sometimes paired with serious side effects, sometimes not. But never effective. I have tried behavioural therapy, psychoanalysis, systemic therapy. Nine weeks of in-patient treatment in a psychiatric clinic. I have tried exercise and healthy eating habits. I really wanted to get better, I really did, but it seemed like a curse. The more I seemed to force it the worse it got.

An intriguing suggestion

When my psychiatrist proposed that I take part in a clinical trial testing ketamine infusions I was not immediately interested. I thought that since I had tried so many options and failed so many times nothing would make any difference…
